LITTLE LEAGUE: Local teams fall in state openers

At Canfield Sports Complex, Coeur d’Alene 

12U 

West Valley 13, Post Falls 6: Post Falls jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but West Valley of Eagle, Star, Middleton and surrounding areas answered with three runs in the second, four in the third and six in the fifth to win Game 1. 

Carson Perkins had a three-run homer that scored Brandon Colglazier and Parker Henninger for Post Falls, and Jaxon LaFountain hit a three-run homer that scored Fletcher Tandy and Jaxson Keevy. 

Game 2 is today, moved up a half-hour to 9:30 a.m. to beat the heat. If Post Falls wins, the deciding game would be Sunday at 9:30 a.m. 


11U 

Post Falls 15, Southwest Ada 9: Post Falls jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first inning, but the visitors from Meridian, Boise and Kuna scored four runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to pull away in Game 1. 

Ethan Squires and Brayden Drapeau each scored two runs for Post Falls. 

Game 2 is today, moved up a half-hour to 9:30 a.m. to beat the heat. If Post Falls wins, the deciding game would be Sunday at 9:30 a.m. 


10U 

West Valley 3, Coeur d’Alene 2, 8 inn.: Cannon Groven pitched shutout ball into the sixth inning for Coeur d’Alene, and center fielder Troy Thielman made a couple highlight-reel catches for West Valley as this game was scoreless into the eighth inning, which started with a ghost runner on second base. 

Mikey Keck, the ghost runner for West Valley, scored on a throwing error in the top of the eighth. A single by Braxton Lowe scored Brixton Wall, and a single by Oliver Wilhite scored Easton Burks. 

Coeur d’Alene rallied in the bottom half. Luke Templeton drew a bases-loaded walk to score Cooper Stotz, and Will Radobenko scored on a fielder’s choice to pull the locals within a run. Coeur d’Alene had the bases loaded with one out, but a strikeout and a groundout ended the game.  

Game 2 is today, moved up a half-hour to 9:30 a.m. to beat the heat. If Coeur d’Alene wins, the deciding game would be Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
