LEGION BASEBALL: Lums advance to semifinals at A districts
MOSCOW — Tanner Franklin went 3 for 5 with three RBIs as the third-seeded Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen beat the second-seeded North Idaho Lakers 9-6 on Friday at Bear Field to advance to the semifinal round of the Class A Area A (district) tournament.
Coeur d’Alene (20-14) will play the fifth-seeded Orofino Merchants (19-13), who knocked off the top-seeded Northern Lakes Mountaineers 4-3, today at 2 p.m. at Bear Field.
Northern Lakes came back to beat the sixth-seeded Camas Prairie Zephyrs 15-5 in a loser-out game. The Mountaineers (29-10) will play the North Idaho Lakers today at 11 a.m. at Bear Field in a loser-out game. The Lakers (16-8) came back to oust the fourth-seeded Lewis-Clark Cubs 20-10.
Earlier, the Prairie Cardinals Black 16U team was eliminated by a 5-4 loss to Camas Prairie.
Franklin’s RBI single in the top of the sixth broke a 3-3 tie for the Lums. Will Robson followed with an RBI single, and Baden VanLinge had a two-run single to make it 7-3.
After the Lakers scored three times to pull within a run, Jack Pierce tripled in a run, then scored on a groundout in the top of the seventh for Coeur d’Alene.
Cooper Lenz had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs for Northern Lakes against Orofino.
Jaeger Tondevold’s two-run single in the sixth broke a 2-2 tie for Orofino.
Against Camas Prairie, Parker Holly drove in four runs for Northern Lakes. He hit a two-run single in the second inning and a two-run double in the third.
Caden Perkins had two hits for Prairie, and his sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth put the Cardinals up 4-3. But Thayn Williams hit a two-out, two-run triple to win it for the Zephyrs.
