Dan Hawkins joining 

Idaho State

football coaching staff


Idaho State football coach Cody Hawkins announced the addition of longtime Division 1 head coach Dan Hawkins to his staff.

Dan Hawkins is a three-time national coach of the year at previous head coaching stops at Willamette in Salem, Ore., Boise State, and most recently UC Davis, his alma mater.

He led Willamette University to their first and only Division III national title game appearance in 1997, helped Boise State to earn their first undefeated regular season at the FBS level in 2004, and was named the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year in 2018 for his efforts in leading UC Davis to the National quarterfinals and a No. 6 national ranking in his second year at the helm.

 The elder Hawkins joins the Bengals as the Director of Player and Staff Development and will focus on mentoring players and staff in various capacities as well as assisting all sides of the ball in game-planning, strategy, and recruitment.


Cycyota named 

assistant coach

for Gonzaga 

volleyball


Gonzaga volleyball coach Katie Wilson announced the hiring of Megan Cycyota as an assistant coach.

Cycyota joins the Gonzaga staff with 18 years of volleyball coaching experience across varying levels. Most recently, Cycyota spent 11 years with Sudden Impact Volleyball Club in Bellevue, Wash., as both an assistant and head coach. 

Throughout her time with Sudden Impact, more than 15 of Cycyota’s athletes went on to play at various levels in college, including two future All-Americans and one of Gonzaga’s latest newcomers for 2024, Krista Kostoff.


Spokane Sports announces 2024 class for Inland Northwest Hall of Fame


Eight new members of the Inland Northwest Sports Hall of Fame were announced earlier this week by the Spokane Sports Commission.

Selected by a committee of local sports leaders, these individuals have made significant contributions to the local sports community.

Honorees are: Stacy Clinesmith (former WNBA player and current Gonzaga assistant women’s basketball coach), Sue Doering (prep volleyball coach), Isaac Fontaine (former Washington State men’s basketball player), Jennifer Stinson Greeny (former Washington State volleyball player and coach), Dennis LaRue (former NHL referee), Bud Nameck (broadcaster), Hal McGlathery (scroll of honor) and Chuck Stewart (scroll of honor).

A reception will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at the Spokane Arena. Doors open at 3:15 p.m., with the ceremony to begin at 4.
