Glenna June Fox, 84

| July 17, 2024 1:00 AM

Glenna June Fox went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2024. She passed while under Hospice care with family by her side, including her beloved Boston, Spike.

Glenna was born Oct. 13, 1939, to Alvin Stobaugh and Janelle Tisdale in Whittier, Calif. She was the third of three siblings, following her brother, Don, and sister Janet. The family resided in a modest home in Pico Rivera just down the street from a local church where Mom would come to know the Lord at an early age. Her father (Grandpa Stobie) worked at a lumber yard while Grandma Stobie managed the home. Glenna worked hard, also. In high school, she pursued a prep course for nursing, which unfortunately included a chemistry class. Many late nights were spent agonizing over this discipline until a passing grade was attained.

In 1958, Mom entered nurses’ training at The Hospital of the Good Samaritan. Here, she would meet lifelong friends, Connie and Ella, graduating in 1960. She began working at Presbyterian Hospital, where she enjoyed many good years.

Other activities included a visit to the World’s Fair in Seattle, parasailing in Hawaii, and even obtaining a pilot’s license. However, the most significant event might have been the admittance to Pres of a young man with a bone infection in late 1967.

On July 13, 1968, Glenna married Chris E. Fox in the small church just down the street. Dad worked as an industrial mechanic while Mom continued her nursing career. The couple resided in a cul-de-sac just off Beverly Boulevard in Whittier, Calif. Close neighbors were sometimes a problem. One such incident occurred when our Boston Terrier, Stitch (Mom’s dog), who was very territorial, spied a poodle entering his yard. He took issue with this, and a melee ensued. Dad, seeing Stitch had the upper hand, did not interfere. The neighbor also noticed and proceeded to swat Stitch on the head with a broom.  Glenna — remember this is her dog — stormed onto the scene and ended the confrontation single-handedly. Domestic disputes aside, the family enjoyed traveling to places like Monterey, Vancouver, and a small hamlet in Idaho called Coeur d’Alene.

In 1975, the folks moved to the Lake City. Here, Mom resumed her nursing at Panhandle Health where she was able to enjoy the countryside as she traveled to her patients’ homes. Also, great care was taken with prenatal classes, often practicing at home to ensure accurate information. It was hard to go anywhere with Glenna absent, running into people who fondly remembered her from these classes, even years later.

Upon retirement, Glenna enjoyed several different interests. Included among them was traveling to various RV parks in the area and even a nationwide trip. A memorable journey to the San Juan Islands was also a favorite. At home, Mom loved to garden, often marveling at the diversity of God’s creation. The summer days would find her seated in a plastic chair surrounded by her puppies doing careful work on a precious bit of soil. On many occasions, due to our close proximity, we were able to play a Carpenters CD as she worked. That would always bring a smile. Glenna expressed her love for Jesus and His plan of redemption through the yearly writing of a Christmas poem from 1987 to 2008. Some of these were published in the local paper.

Glenna was always a dedicated wife and mother. She showed great courage in caring for Dad during his extended illness, sacrificing her own health at times. We trust that she is at home in Jesus’ arms and will forever remain in our hearts.

Mom is survived by her stepson, Chris Fox; stepdaughter Judy Fox; her brother’s children: Steve Stobaugh, Laura Lane, Eric Stobaugh; their mother, Ida; cousin Francis; and extended family.

We wish to offer our thanks to the caregivers and health providers who were a great asset in keeping Glenna at home these past several months. We also extend our deep gratitude to the staff at Hospice of North Idaho for the sensitive and compassionate care Glenna received during her final days. They were truly angels of mercy at a most difficult time.  We acknowledge Yates Funeral Home for assistance with final arrangements.

A graveside memorial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens (7315 Government Way Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815). Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements.
