Gary Edwin Heston
Born to Glenn E. Heston and Katherin Minden Heston on March 26, 1939, in Lewiston, Idaho. Gary attended Lewiston schools until the Heston family moved to Nez Perce with the addition of his sister, Gail, who was born exactly five years after Gary. Gary graduated high school from Nez Perce, Idaho, in 1957. Their dad, Glenn, farmed, and their mother, Katherine, was a homemaker. Katherine died Nov. 19, 1973. Glenn passed away Aug. 12, 1990. Sister Gail died Sept. 12, 2018.
After graduating from high school, Gary attended court reporting school in Seattle, Wash. Gary was known to be the longest-standing court reporter in Idaho at one time. He achieved many awards for very high speed and accuracy in his court reporting career.
Gary married Lois Schlader on Nov. 28, 1959, in Nez Perce, Idaho. The young couple moved to Lewiston, where Gary became the second person to serve as a court reporter in Nez Perce County.
1961 was the year of the birth of their first son, Michael E. Heston. Mike passed away in a car accident May 17, 1981. In 1962, Mark G. Heston was born, 1963, John G. Heston was born, and in 1964, Jim D. Heston was born as a farmer's son. Gary always said Lois and I had a crop failure for four years until our fifth son, Joel A. Heston, was born in 1968. Gary and Lois divorced, and Gary moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1983. Gary married Susan Hancock on Oct. 10, 1987, and went on to have Matthew J. Heston in 1989 and Jared M. Heston in 1991.
Survived by his six sons, Mark, John (Annette), and Jim of Clarkston, Wash., Joel (Jan), Matthew (Burnadette) and Jared, all of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Grandchildren Nate (Nicole), Johnette, Alex, Breanne and Madeleine. Great-grandchildren Gunner, Harleigh, Colson and soon-to-be baby boy Peterson.
Also survived by many nephews and nieces. And his companion, Judyth Smith.
Gary enjoyed many outdoor activities, including camping, boating, skiing, golfing and taking care of his many properties over the years.
Gary E. Heston's celebration of life will be July 19, at 2 p.m., at Faith Bible Church, 514 Warner Ave., Lewiston, Idaho.
