LEGION BASEBALL:Lums to play for title in Whitefish

WHITEFISH, Mont. — Nate Weatherhead allowed two hits and struck out eight for the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen "AA" team in an 8-0 win over the Missoula Impact 18U in the Ed Gallo Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Memorial Park.

Ty Shepard opened the scoring for Coeur d’Alene with an RBI double in the first inning to score Travis Usdrowski, who extended the advantage to 3-0 with an RBI triple in the third inning.

Kolbe Coey hit a two-run triple in the third to give Coeur d’Alene a 7-0 lead.

Coeur d’Alene, which finished 3-1 in its pool, will face the Glacier Twins "A" in the championship game today at 3:30 p.m. PDT.

MISSOULA, Mont. — Jace Taylor struck out 12 over 5.2 innings for the Mountaineers, who held off the Expos-Norden 18U in the Missoula Mavs Invitational. 

Caleb Mason, Grant Allaway and Jace Cooksey had three hits each for Northern Lakes (26-9), which led 8-1 in the seventh before the Expos rallied with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Mason struck out a Spokane hitter with runners on second and third to end the game.

Northern Lakes, 2-2 in the tourney, faces the Missoula Mavericks today at Lindborg-Cregg Field today at 1:30 p.m. PDT. The championship game is scheduled for 4.

SANDPOINT — Gavin Day went 3 for 3 with an RBI single in the first inning of the first game of a doubleheader sweep of the Camas Prairie Zephyrs at War Memorial Field.

Jorden Tyler and Chase Sanroman each had an RBI double in the sixth inning of the opener.

In the second game, Mason Little threw 2.1 innings of no-hit baseball as the Lakers (16-11, 11-3 NIL) completed the sweep.

With the win, North Idaho clinched the second seed to the class A Area A Tournament starting Tuesday at the Moscow School District Community Playfields.
