LEGION BASEBALL: Dixon lifts Lums to split at Whitefish tourney

WHITEFISH, Mont. — Left-hander Charlie Dixon pitched a five-hit shutout with six strikeouts as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen “AA” team beat the Spokane Rawlings Tigers 18U on Friday in its second game of the day at the Ed Gallo Memorial Tournament at Memorial Park. 

The Lumbermen fell 8-4 to the Spokane Expos Williamson 18U in their first game of the day Friday, and are now 2-1 in tourney play. 

Dixon went 2 for 2 with an RBI double in the fourth inning against the Tigers. Braeden Newby singled in Dixon to make it 4-0 Lums. 

Against the Expos, Coeur d’Alene committed five errors, and just one of Spokane’s eight runs was earned. 

Travis Usdrowski went 2 for 3 with two doubles for the Lums, including a run-scoring two-bagger in the fourth. Nolan Christ added a two-run double in the fifth, and finished 2 for 4 with two doubles. 

Coeur d’Alene (18-13) plays the Missoula Impact 18U today at 9:30 a.m. PDT to conclude round-robin play.

Mountaineers win one, lose one at Missoula tourney 

MISSOULA, Mont. — Northern Lakes “A” beat the Kalispell Sluggers 16U 11-3 and lost to the Calgary Premier Blues 18U 16-8 on Day 2 of the Missoula Mavs Invitational. 

Northern Lakes (25-9) is now 1-2 in round-robin play. 

Parker Holly was 2 for 3 for the Mountaineers against Kalispell. Jace Cooksey’s RBI single in the third inning gave Northern Lakes a 4-3 lead, and the team of Timberlake and Lakeland high school players never looked back. 

Caleb Mason doubled in a run in the fifth, and scored on Jace Taylor’s single. Holly’s RBI single ended it on the eight-run rule. 

Trailing the Calgary Blues 12-1, Holly hit a two-run double to highlight a six-run bottom of the fourth inning for Northern Lakes. Jace Taylor drove in a pair of runs for the Mountaineers. 

Northern Lakes plays the Spokane Expos today at 12:45 p.m. PDT as round-robin play continues.
