LETTERS: Hate speech, the debate, the gospel

| July 12, 2024 1:00 AM

I read the letters regarding the new restriction on hate speech, the debate and muzzling the gospel. The two about speech are both reliant on the U.S. Constitution specifically the First Amendment. This reads:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Given this, how is it that the Ten Commandments do not belong in courthouses and schools because an atheist was offended and said they do not belong? Seems to me that according to this they do. I will say that the man who said in his letter to PRINT them is only partially right because you also have to live by them. This says too that freedom of speech cannot be abridged. HMMM need to research that one more.

For the debate — I do not like either candidate from the debate. Neither should be running for president. We need someone younger with fresh ideas.
