LEGION BASEBALL: Lums open with victory at Whitefish tourney

WHITEFISH, Mont. — Charlie Dixon and Isaac Ziegler had RBI singles in a five-run first inning, and the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen “AA” team beat the host Glacier Twins “A” 10-2 on the first day of the Ed Gallo Memorial Tournament on Thursday at Memorial Park.

Ty Shepard drove in a pair of runs for the Lumbermen (17-12), one on a second-inning double. Ziegler allowed three hits and one earned run in five innings.

Travis Usdrowski was 2 for 3 with two doubles and scored three runs for Coeur d’Alene, which plays the Spokane Expos Williamson 18U and the Spokane Rawlings Tigers 18U today as tourney play continues.

MISSOULA, Mont. — The Mountaineers made it interesting with six runs in the fifth inning, but an 11-0 deficit proved too much to overcome against the Red Sox of Hamilton, Mont., in their first game at the Missoula Mavs Invitational.

Evan Shanley hit a two-run single and Parker Holly followed with a two-run double in the sixth for Northern Lakes (24-8).

Today, Northern Lakes plays the Kalispell Sluggers at 12:45 p.m. PDT and the Premier Blues at 3:30 as round-robin play continues.
