Summer, with increased traffic and soaring temperatures, might not seem the opportune time for the city of Coeur d'Alene to begin several street projects that may annoy drivers.

But it is.

"This is the time of year we do it," said Todd Feusier, Streets and Engineering director, Tuesday. "It can't be done in the winter. We need dry, warm temperatures."

Street work costing several million dollars is going on throughout the city. Drivers should expect delays, reduced speed, detours and reduced parking.

Here's a quick look:

• Fourth Street and Boise Avenue: Intersection reconstruction, July 8-22. This area is closed during construction.

• Northwest Boulevard, Lakewood Drive to Government Way, July 8-12, chip applied, July 22-24, fog seal applied.

• Riverstone/Lakewood area: Chip seal application, July 8-12, chip applied, July 22-24, fog seal applied.

• Sherman Avenue, Government Way to Eighth Street, mill and inlay, new road surface, July 8-30.

• Atlas Road, Seltice Way to Kathleen, mill and inlay, July 22-25

• Ramsey Road, northbound lanes, Marie Drive to Kathleen Ave., mill and inlay, July 24 to Aug. 8.

• Appleway Avenue, Ramsey Road to Howard Avenue, mill and Inlay, July 24 to Aug. 14.

Feusier said work is going well and should be completed by the second week of August. Sherman Avenue construction will be done before the Street Fair on Aug. 2-4, he said.
