OPEN PRIMARIES: Everyone should have a chance to decide

| July 7, 2024 1:00 AM

I am proud of the mall part I played in getting the Open Primaries on the ballot.

The Idaho constitution states: “All political power is inherent in the people.” Closed primaries take the voting power away from 270,000 Idahoans who are registered to vote.

I want everyone to have a chance to decide who they would like to choose for nonpartisan positions as well as the selection for the ballot in the general election.

It seems like there is a push in Idaho to put roadblocks for any election, including wanting to do away with absentee ballots, which would make it harder to vote for those that can’t stand in line due to age, disability or the desire to ponder over the ballot to make a decision. So glad that Open Primaries will give more people choices to make Idaho the state they want.
