SPOKANE/COEUR d'ALENE WOOD BAT CLASSIC: Lums, Lakers 19U teams fall in consolation games

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen U19 team fell to the Columbia Basin RiverDogs of Moses Lake 10-3 in a Senior Division consolation game to complete play at the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic at Thorco Field on Saturday.

Chase Saunders and Owen Mangini had two hits each for Coeur d’Alene, which committed five errors in the loss.

Coeur d’Alene (16-12) returns to action Thursday at the Ed Gallo Memorial Tournament in Whitefish, Mont.

Missoula Impact 7, North Idaho Lakers 5: The 19U North Idaho Lakers squandered a 5-1 lead, falling 7-5 to the Missoula Impact in a Senior Division consolation game at Thorco Field.

The Lakers put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning after Missoula committed a series of errors and Gavin Day batted in a run after grounding into a fielder’s choice. In the second, Dallen Williams and Day both hit sacrifice flies to give North Idaho a 5-1 lead. However, Missoula scored at least one run in every inning that followed and eventually took home the two-run victory.

North Idaho committed five errors — only one of Missoula’s runs was earned. Jorden Tyler started the game for the Lakers and gave up two hits, two walks and two runs (zero earned) while striking out one batter across three innings. Chase Sanroman relieved his twin brother, Cole, in the fourth and threw two innings, giving up one hit, two walks and two runs (zero earned) while striking out a team-high four batters.

The Lakers finished 1-4 overall in tournament play.

North Idaho (11-11) hosts the Orofino Merchants for a doubleheader Friday at War Memorial Field.

Also in the Senior Division, in a consolation game at Rogers High in Spokane, the River City Premier 18U Webb fell to the Spokane Expos 18U 9-1 to conclude tournament play.

Northern Lakes falls in quarterfinals

of Junior Division tournament


SPOKANE VALLEY — Mountaineer pitcher Parker Holly struck out five over seven innings, but an RBI double by Billings first baseman Owen Schneider in the top of the first inning was the difference in a 1-0 loss in a quarterfinal game in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic at West Valley High.

Northern Lakes (20-7) had runners on first and second base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but had the game end on a groundout.

Northern Lakes hosts St. Maries in a doubleheader on Tuesday at John Shaffer Field at Timberlake High.

Billings, winners of the Centennial Middle School Pod, faces Wilder Baseball Club today at 9 a.m. in a semifinal game at Thorco Field.

Also in the West Valley Pod, the Prairie Cardinals, who finished second, beat the Asotin County Blues 10-2 in a consolation game.

In a matchup of Post Falls High Pod champions from the same club program, the River City Premier 16U Cooper beat River City Premier 16U Reese 4-2 in a quarterfinal game at Post Falls High to advance to the semifinals.

River City Cooper will face the Whalley Junior Chiefs of Surrey, British Columbia today at 11:30 a.m. at Thorco Field, with the championship game scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen 17U beat the Lewis-Clark Bucs 13-1 in a consolation game at Lake City High.
