Rebecca 'Becky' Sue Abbott, 73
Rebecca “Becky” Sue Abbott passed away in her home June 28, 2024. She is survived by her son, Jeremy Michael Hylton. Becky was born April 28, 1951, to parents Howard and Dorcas Abbott in Chewelah, Wash. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 7 p.m. at Pathway Church, 3115 North 15th Street, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Becky graduated from Utah State University in 1986. Her major was special education. She spent her career in the field of special education. Her first job was as a resource teacher at Edison Elementary in Ogden, Utah. She worked as a resource teacher in several school districts in Idaho: Meridian, Lewiston and Nampa. In 2000, she left the public school system and began working in the world of disabilities, working within the Medicaid programs of the Health and Welfare Department. Her first job was at the Nampa Recreation Center in the day care unit. She worked as a developmental specialist in Tomorrow’s Hope’s after-school children’s program. She began working in adult programs in 2002. She became a targeted service coordinator in Nampa. She worked with disabled adults by writing yearly plans regarding all the resources and services available to them.
Becky moved to Coeur d’Alene in 2006 and became a program coordinator for Angel Aides or ResCare in 2008, where she worked until her retirement. Her interests were reading, being in the outdoors, camping and spending time with her siblings on retreats.
Anyone that knew Becky knew that the joy of her life was her son, Jeremy. She dedicated her entire life seeing that Jeremy would develop into a productive adult. She believed that Jeremy had been entrusted to her care and she devoted her life to him. He resides at the family home.
