Carl Melvin McDonald, 72
Oct. 3, 1951 — June 28, 2024
Carl Melvin McDonald, loving father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully June 28, 2024, in Hayden, Idaho, surrounded by his family. He was 72 years old.
Born Oct. 3, 1951, in Scotia, Calif., Carl moved with his family to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where his family owned and operated a logging business. During his early years, Carl learned to operate heavy equipment, drive logging trucks and fix motors and engines. Upon finishing his GED and entering the workforce, he welcomed his first daughter, DeAnna, in 1972. In 1973, Carl welcomed twin daughters Erin and Leslie, who died after a few short days of life. In 1974, Carl welcomed a son, Eugene, followed in 1977 with another daughter, Kelli. In 1976, Carl became a dedicated stepfather to Brian.
As a devoted father of four, to provide for his family, Carl dedicated most of his career to the transportation industry. From cement mix driver to semi-truck long haul driver to commercial bus driver; if something had a steering wheel, Carl could drive it. He spent 20+ years working for Baker Truck Lines hauling wood chips to Lewiston Idaho, and even held a position at Bunker Hill Mining. Carl McDonald was a very hard worker.
He will be remembered for his kind heart and mischievous spirit; he would give the shirt from his back to help friends, family and strangers in need. He loved the outdoors and especially camping, riding motorcycles, riding horses, photography, water sports and traveling. He also enjoyed electronics, such as ham and CB radios. Carl’s passing has left a huge void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy is marked by love and kindness. He is survived by his sister, Terry Barber; his daughters, DeAnna DeTemple and Kelli Smith; his sons, Eugene McDonald and Brian Archer, along with 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his father, Omar Russell McDonald, his mother, Velma Violet McDonald and his twin daughters, Erin and Leslie.
A graveside service will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on July 9 at 11 a.m. All friends and family are welcome to attend to say goodbye as Carl McDonald rests eternally with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
