COEUR d'ALENE — The Kiwanis Club of Coeur d’Alene recently awarded a $5,000 grant to Specialized Needs Recreation for scholarships for SNR’s summer camp program for individuals of all ages with disabilities.

“SNR does not receive any state or federal funding, and it is very validating when our community supports our program," said Lindsay Patterson, SNR executive director.

She said their summer camps include arts, crafts, sports, outings, cooking, meals and more.

"It is a very important place in our community, and has been for 40 years," Patterson said in a press release.

SNR and Kiwanis have similar visions.

SNR’s goal is “Enriching our participants with special needs through recreation and socialization to enhance personal growth.” Their vision is to champion an independent and joyful life, creating a connected community for all.”

Kiwanis Club of Coeur d’Alene has several service leadership programs, developing leadership skills and offering opportunities for community service hours. Kiwanis family of service organizations includes members of all ages and abilities, including Key Club International for high school students and Aktion Club for adults with disabilities.
