| July 1, 2024 1:00 AM

SELAH, Wash. — Ty Shepard had four hits, including the go-ahead two-run single in the top of the eighth inning, and the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen went on to beat the West Plains Cannons 18U of Medical Lake 8-5 in the championship game of the Emily Harris Memorial Tournament on Sunday at Archer Stadium.

Shepard, who also scored three runs, drove in Owen Mangini and ghost runner Travis Usdrowski with one out to break a 4-4 tie in the eighth for Coeur d’Alene (13-10), which went 4-1 in the tourney. Mark Holecek followed with a two-run, two-out single to score Austin DeBoer and Shepard.

The Cannons scored once in the bottom half, but Braeden Newby struck out two of the three batters he faced to finish off the win for the Lums.

Holecek’s sacrifice fly in the fourth put Coeur d’Alene up 4-2.

West Plains tied it in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly and a passed ball.
