Carl Hammons, 71

| January 31, 2024 1:00 AM

Carl Alan Hammons passed away peacefully Jan. 19, 2024, after a seven-month battle with cancer. Carl was born Dec. 19, 1952 in Jerome, Idaho. He was a curious child who loved spending time on his grandparents' farm in Hagerman. Favorite activities included fishing, hunting, taunting the bulls by running the fence of their pen, helping his grandpa tend to all of the livestock, and eating his grandma's homemade treats. After graduating from Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in 1970, Carl spent most of his life in the logging industry, where he was widely regarded for his ability to navigate steep terrain under any weather condition and deliver multiple loads in a single day. A skilled mechanic, there wasn't a large piece of machinery that Carl couldn't operate. Carl had a dry sense of humor, made the best apple pie and loved animals.

In his later years, Carl enjoyed cribbage, college football, afternoon drives in the North Idaho mountains and a good steak. Carl left an impression on everyone he met. He had a huge heart, a deep, genuine laugh and would help anyone in need.

Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Kay, his parents, Lloyd and Barbara Hammons, and his beloved dog, Willy. Carl leaves behind his sister, Carroll Burtzoff, and her husband, Aaron, his niece, Jennifer, nephew Shaun, three stepsons Dean, Joe and Tony, two granddaughters Kayla and Crystal, great-nephews Tate and Tanner and best friend Mark Shrank.
