Crapo, Risch announce 2024 military academy nominations

| January 29, 2024 1:05 AM

U.S. Sens. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, and Jim Risch, R-Idaho, announced Thursday the nomination of young Idahoans to the nation’s military academies.

The U.S. service academies will review the students’ applications and make final decisions on admittance.

“The United States’ military academies produce future military leaders, equipping them to protect against threats to our country at home and abroad,” Crapo said in a news release.

He said these outstanding students have indicated an admirable willingness to serve.

In a separate release, Risch said those nominated are committed to selflessly serving the U.S. and defending its freedoms.

"Their leadership, character and academic promise make each of these young men and women a phenomenal fit to attend one of our nation’s service academies," he said. "I commend each of them for the accomplishments they have already earned, and I look forward to seeing their continued success.”

2024 military academy nominations from Kootenai County:

U.S. Military Academy — West Point, N.Y.
• Jesse Taylor, Hayden

U.S. Air Force Academy — Colorado Springs, Colo.
• Brodyn Compton, Post Falls
• Hadley House, Hayden

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy — Kings Point, N.Y.
• Wyatt Paulson, Hauser

Each year, U.S. senators and representatives nominate students to four of the service academies. The academies then select from the students nominated. To qualify for nominations, students submitted applications and references and met certain scholastic requirements under a deadline. A nomination does not guarantee acceptance. Contact Juli Smith in Crapo's North Idaho office in Coeur d'Alene at 208-664-5490 to apply for future nominations.

Those interested in applying for service academy nominations can also find details on Risch’s website, risch.senate.gov/public, or by emailing Frances_Hasenoehrl@risch.senate.gov.
