GRANGEVILLE — Senior post Wyatt Holmes had 19 points and 15 rebounds as the St. Maries Lumberjacks started strong and defeated the Grangeville Bulldogs 57-45 in Central Idaho League play Saturday.

“By far his best game of the year,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said of the 6-foot-6 Holmes. “He’s had a real good week of practice. He just has that feeling that he can do so much more. He really put in some extra time this week, working on his shot, working on his his post moves, and it showed tonight.”

Sophomore JJ Yearout added 15 points and six steals for first-place St. Maries (7-5, 3-0 CIL). Seth Swallows had seven rebounds, Jack Barta four assists.

Sam Lindsley scored a game-high 22 points for Grangeville (3-9, 3-4).

“Very athletic,” Genesis Prep coach Lon Morast said. “We had problems with their athleticism, and they had quite a few offensive rebounds and putbacks.

KELLOGG — The host Wildcats were limited to 11 first-half points in a Central Idaho League loss to the Maniacs at Andrews Gymnasium.

“We turned the ball over a bunch,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “Ultimately, they were just a little more ready to go than we were, and that falls on me for us not being more prepared at the jump.”

Freshman Porter Lewis scored 15 points for Kellogg (6-11, 3-3 CIL), which is currently third in the league.

“The league is wide open right now,” Martin said. “St. Maries is in the driver's seat without any notches, but there’s a lot left out there.”
