PREP WRESTLING: Coeur d'Alene leads North Idaho Rumble after first day

COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene’s Rocco White (98 pounds), Colton Tucker (145), Jordan Schield (132), Gabe Grassel (182) and Boston Spear (126) advanced to the semifinals of today’s 14th annual North Idaho Rumble after going unbeaten on the first day of the tournament at Coeur d’Alene High.

Coeur d’Alene leads the 20-team tournament with 115.5 points, followed by American Falls in second with 108.5 and Caldwell in third with 104 points.

White will face Timberlake’s Sawyer Huston in the semifinals.

Huston is joined in the semis by teammate Wyatt Carey (106) and Luke Schell (182) for Timberlake, which is fourth with 82.5 points.. 

Nathan Booth (160), Garrett Leonard (195) and James Vincent (220) moved into the semis for Lake City, which is fifth with 79.5 points.

Carson Leonard (113) and Carter Vanek (285) advanced to the semifinals for Lakeland, which is sixth with 77 points.

Kyle Miller (152) and Kendall Sage (195) advanced to the semis for Post Falls, which is eighth with 70 points. The Trojans have won the tournament 11 times, with Coeur d’Alene winning the other two in 2011 and 2022.

In the girls tournament, Coeur d’Alene’s Brooklyn Anderson (152) and Cara Brown (145) advanced to the semifinals. Brown will face Chloe Thomas of Post Falls for a spot in the finals.

Alexxis Johnson (120) and Madi Cook (132) advanced to the semifinals for Lake City.

Emma Younger (126) and Gracelyn Brockman (185) advanced for Post Falls.

Annika Thompson (165) advanced for Lakeland.

Kellogg, St. Maries go unbeaten

on first day of North-South duals

KOOSKIA — Kellogg and St. Maries went unbeaten on the first day of the Clearwater Valley North-South duals tournament at Clearwater Valley High.

Kellogg defeated West Side 45-36, Melba 57-18, North Gem 78-6 and Salmon 76-6 to advance. 

Johnny Stovern (98 pounds), Ricky Haralson (120), Chase Scribner (126), Kolter Wood (132), Travis Eixenberger (170) and Russell Fields (285) went unbeaten on the first day for the Wildcats.

St. Maries beat Melba 72-12, Nampa Christian 71-6, Ririe 47-32 and Tri-Valley 48-42.

“The boys looked good tonight,” St. Maries coach Dennis Humphrey said. “It was a long day of wrestling after a long bus ride, but they came off of the bus ready to go.”

Kelby Harvey (113), Aiden Yearout (160), Trey Gibson (195) and Scott Sotin (285) were unbeaten for the Lumberjacks.
