MOSCOW — The Lakeland Hawks fell behind by 22 points in the first half, and could never get it into single digits the rest of the way, losing 69-50 to the Moscow Bears in Inland Empire League play Friday night at Bear Den.

Moscow made eight 3-pointers, six in the first half.

“They just came out and shot the lights out early,” Lakeland coach Tony Hanna said. “Our goal is to take (Ian) Hillman out (he finished with four points), but they had other guys step up.

Lakeland (9-6, 1-3 IEL) trailed 37-15 with 3 minutes left in the first half, but rallied to cut the deficit to 40-26 at halftime.

The Hawks got within 12 midway through the third quarter, and within 14 early in the fourth.

“It didn’t feel it was out of reach; we just couldn’t claw back,” Hanna said.

Kenton Ferguson hit three 3-pointers and led Lakeland with 17 points, and Ben Roth added 10.

The Hawks made just 8 of 18 free throws.

Brayson Reed hit four 3s and scored a game-high 19 points for Moscow (7-9, 3-2), and Grant Abendroth hit two 3s and added 16 points.
