PREP WRESTLING: Lake City downs Vallivue, Moscow in tuneup for North Idaho Rumble

MOSCOW — Sophomore Josh Macdonald (132 pounds), junior Brycen Duboise (138), senior Caden Dutra (152), junior Nathan Booth and junior Sebastian Mosman (220) had pins for Lake City in a 49-24 win over Vallivue on Thursday at Bear Den in a tuneup for the North Idaho Rumble.

“The kids showed up and wrestled hard tonight,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “I was really happy with their effort tonight. Sebastian was down 4-2 in his match against Moscow, but just stayed after it and got a pin. Connor (Johnson), he’s just a sophomore but went 2-0 and has been improving all year long. He’s a cross country kid and it’s hard for guys to keep pace with him. He just believes in himself and a lot of it comes from plain hard work.”

Later, Duboise (138), Dutra (152), Booth (160) and Mosman (220) notched their second pin of the night for the Timberwolves in a 51-34 win over Moscow.

Duboise returned after suffering a partially torn ACL in his left knee at Tri-State.

“I was holding my breath all night, but he got two pins against two solid kids,” Owen said. “I’ll probably be nervous watching him the rest of the season, but it was great to see him have that success in his return.”

Junior Garrett Leonard won by major decision for Lake City against, which competes in the North Idaho Rumble starting at 1 p.m. today at Coeur d’Alene High.

RATHDRUM — Seniors Duke Williamson (120 pounds) and Gage Oles (195) had pins for the Hawks on senior night in a victory over the Tigers at Lakeland High.

Freshman Carson Leonard (113), freshman Griffin Tamagni (126), sophomore Cole Cooper (132), junior Kros O’Brien (145), junior Austin Howell (152) and junior Carter Vanek (285) also had pins for Lakeland.

Later, the Hawks picked up a result in 9 of the final 10 matches, including four forfeits, to beat Pocatello 60-27.
