LAS VEGAS — Sophomore Cobi Campbell might have had an off night shooting on Thursday, but he was right on when it mattered for North Idaho College.

Campbell, who has signed to continue his playing career at Troy University in Alabama, hit a free throw with one second remaining for the Cardinals, who held off the Southern Nevada Coyotes 83-82 in overtime of a Scenic West Athletic Conference game.

Dante Sawyer, a sophomore transfer from San Francisco City College, gave NIC a 73-71 lead on a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining in regulation. Southern Nevada sent the game to overtime on a layup by Samuel Steele-williams as time expired.

Sawyer finished with 33 points, eight rebounds and four assists for NIC (15-6, 3-2 SWAC), which travels to Community Christian of Redlands, Calif., on Saturday.

LAS VEGAS — Kendall Pickford, a redshirt freshman guard from Lake City High, scored 22 of her game-high 27 points in the second half for the Cardinals, who fell short to the Coyotes in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game at the Coyote Athletic Center.

Pickford made a layup with 15 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 78-75. Southern Nevada missed four straight free throws in the final moments, with a tying 3-pointer with three seconds remaining coming up short.

NIC trailed 39-22 at the half.

“The girls just fought back,” NIC coach Nathan Covill said. “We’ve got to learn to fight and compete in this conference, and we did that in the second half. Kendall got on fire in the third and fourth quarter, and the girls did a good job of finding her. The effort and energy that we played with in the second half was what we’ve been looking for.”

Maddie Williamson, a freshman from Malta, Mont., had 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists for NIC (7-12, 0-4 SWAC), which faces Community Christian in a nonconference game on Saturday in Redlands, Calif.

Community Christian, with only five players on its roster, is playing a club schedule this season.

Aaliyah Ybarra scored 19 points for Southern Nevada (19-2, 2-2).
