Kellogg man arrested after shooting girlfriend
KELLOGG — A Kellogg man is in police custody following a shooting that reportedly occurred during a domestic dispute.
Early Thursday morning, Kellogg Police Department officer David Bishop responded to a report of a burglary that resulted in a firearm being discharged at a home on the corner of Brown and Chestnut streets.
When Bishop arrived at the residence, he discovered the burglary he was responding to was an adult female who was shot while she was allegedly attempting to gain entry to the home she shared with her boyfriend, Owen Seatz, 22.
According to police, Seatz was out drinking Wednesday night and upon returning home in the early morning hours he and the victim got into an argument. Allegedly, during the altercation, Seatz physically removed the victim from the home multiple times. On her final attempt to re-enter the residence, the victim reportedly informed Seatz she would break the window to gain entry to the locked door and proceeded to break the window with a shovel. According to Kellogg Police, Seatz then fired a shotgun at the victim who was struck by several pellets. She was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
After taking Seatz into custody, KPD, with assistance from the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence to gather evidence.
KPD Chief Paul Twidt said that in their report to the Shoshone County Prosecutor’s Office, KPD personnel were recommending Seatz be charged with aggravated battery, but that could change at the discretion of the prosecutor.
Seatz appeared in Shoshone County’s District Court Monday morning where he pleaded guilty to a single count of felony possession of a controlled substance and was out of police custody on bail awaiting sentencing April 1.
Seatz is scheduled to be in Shoshone County Magistrate Court today and will be formally read the charges he is facing for this new incident.
