Juliana Kay “Julie” Manning, 82

Julie Manning of Hayden, Idaho, passed away peacefully Jan. 17, 2024, with her daughters by her side.

She was born April 1, 1941, in Marshfield, Wisc., to parents Edward and Hattie Cournoyer. Julie was the youngest of six children. She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1959. She began her career as a telephone operator at the phone company and soon married her first husband and had three children, Natalie, Willie and Patty. Telephone work caused them to transfer all over the country until they finally ended up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1968. They divorced shortly after and Julie remained in Cd'A. She continued her career as a telephone operator at GTE and started raising her three kids alone.

In 1978, Julie married Frank Manning and they were a match made in heaven! After Frank and Julie retired, they traveled the country every year including many trips to Aruba. Summers were spent visiting with family and friends on the back porch, which included drinking a few beers and telling stories with lots of laughs.

Julie was a very social person and was always doing “something.” She volunteered at Kootenai Health and joined the “Red Hot Mamas.” Julie gained so many friends and she and the group marched in parades, including President Bush’s Inaugural, Macy’s Day Parade, Hershey’s Parade, 4th of July Parade and so many more. She absolutely loved her friends and stayed very close to them even when she could no longer march. Julie was a devout Catholic who loved going to Sunday Mass. She loved helping at her church whenever needed.

Julie was a very strong woman. She loved cleaning and kept her house immaculate. When she started having troubles in the end, Julie had no problem giving her daughters instructions on what she wanted done! She was hilarious! Julie was extremely funny and witty and said whatever came to her mind. In the later years, with her hearing loss and talking louder, it could be a little embarrassing in stores, church and restaurants due to Julie “whispering” but not realizing EVERYONE around her could also hear what she was saying. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she would start shopping in February every year. Christmas will never be the same without her!

After 45 years of marriage, Frank passed away in August 2023. She had a hard time accepting his death and as the old saying goes, we believe she died of a “broken heart.” Three days before Julie passed, she kept saying, “I want to go home!” She knew she was actually in her home but continued to say these words. You have made it “HOME” Julie. You are now with Jesus and all of your family and friends who have passed before you. May you Rest in Peace, you Beautiful Funny Lady! We all love you and will miss you so much!

Julie is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Manning, and her son, Willie West, her parents and all five siblings.

Julie leaves behind her daughters, Natalie and Patty West, stepdaughters Dannette (Rick) Legrand and Sandra (Greg) Vanover, grandchildren Haley, Kristen, Danielle and Raymond, great-grandchildren Braxton and Bishop and (soon to be another great-grandson from Haley, who is due near her birthday), numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Please join us for a Celebration of Life for Julie on Saturday, Feb. 17 beginning at 3 p.m. at the Hayden Eagles, 1520 W. Wyoming Ave. No one under 21. Snacks will be served. Bring any photos and stories you would like to share.
