PREP BASKETBALL: Sandpoint rallies past Timberlake boys

| January 24, 2024 1:05 AM

BOYS

SPIRIT LAKE — The host Timberlake Tigers forced the Sandpoint Bulldogs into 5-of-34 shooting from 3-point range, but ran out of gas in the fourth quarter in the nonleague game and fell 70-61 on Tuesday.

Junior Tyler Engelson hit 6 of Timberlake’s 11 3-pointers and led the Tigers (4-12) with 20 points. Cole Meidinger added 14 points for Timberlake, which was 11 of 35 from deep.

“We were running a wild and crazy zone defense, allowing them to shoot 3s, but we were running at them, and our defensive energy caused them to miss,” Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said. “It was probably one of our better effort games. We kept playing good defense, but we ran out of gas. The kids fought hard; they (the Bulldogs) hit some big shots.”

Freshman Derrick Chamberlain scored 10 of his 20 points in the second quarter for Sandpoint (8-9), which trailed 54-49 after three quarters. Logan Roos and Parker Childs added 19 points each for the Bulldogs.

Timberlake is home against Genesis Prep on Monday.
