Adam Arthur Kaidian Hotine, 19

| January 23, 2024 1:00 AM

Adam Arthur Kaidian Hotine, of Post Falls, Idaho, died Jan. 13, 2024, at home in his sleep after a brief illness. His loss was unexpected and his family is deeply saddened by his loss.

Adam was born Sept. 1, 2004, in Shaanxi Province, China. Adopted in May of 2007, at the age of two and a half by his parents, John Hotine and Stephanie Duffy.

Adam came into a wild and wonderful bunch of siblings whose ages ranged from 2 to 15. Younger brother Charles followed three years after Adam arrived from China. Being only 26 days apart from his sister, Avonlea, they grew up annoying each other, causing mischief in the house and having fun together as the best of friends. As a young child, his siblings, John, Christopher and Amanda, spent many hours playing with and loving on Adam. Adam and Charlie shared a special bond as brothers who drove each other crazy one moment and were howling in laughter the next.

Adam loved animals and science. His bookshelves were full of all subjects, from surviving Ebola to sharks. He noticed little details about the world that others would often dismiss. He had a great fascination with all living organisms, from bugs to jellyfish to germs. Adam was an avid artist and enjoyed drawing. He collected gnomes and loved true crime podcasts. He had a funny, quirky sense of humor. He was insightful, generous, loyal, caring, curious, thoughtful and kind.

Adam attended Genesis Prep Academy in Post Falls, Idaho, followed by a semester his senior year at Post Falls High School. He was an exceptional student and was looking forward to graduation. He was accepted into the University of Montana and was hoping to major in psychology. He loved his pets and his first job was working for Doggin’ It Doggy Daycare in Coeur d’Alene. He then worked for Marriott, and finally at Walmart as a checker balancing work while also accomplishing straight As.

Adam had the biggest heart and cared greatly for those around him. He will be forever missed.

Adam is survived by his parents, Mother Stephanie (Shane) Duffy,  Father John (Terra) Hotine of Post Falls, Idaho, Siblings John (Noelle) Hotine of Montana, Christopher (Jocyln) Hotine of Florida, Amanda (Tim) Hayden of New Hampshire, Avonlea Hotine and Charles Hotine of Post Falls, Idaho. Grandmother Marilyn Wallace of Idaho; Nephews Brody, Ian and Bjorn, and nieces Bailey, Brixlee and Abigail. He is also survived by his step-siblings, Jacob Brockus, Trenton (Ali) Karl, Sable Brockus and Anastasia (Branden) Wissmann, and daughter Mavis. As well as aunt Christine “Auntie Beans” Wallace, uncle David Wallace, aunt Jenny and uncle Mitch German and aunt Joanne and uncle Jason Costa of Calif., as well as several cousins. He is also survived by his best friends, Christian and Sebastian. He leaves behind many other friends and acquaintances.

A Memorial Service for Adam will be Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Mountain View Bible Church in Post Falls, Idaho.
