PREP BOYS BASKETBALL:Williams scores 30 as Badgers win in Backwoods Brawl game

BONNERS FERRY — Asher Williams scored 25 of his game-high 30 points in the first half, and the Bonners Ferry Badgers went on to an 84-45 victory over the Timberlake Tigers in the Backwoods Brawl spirit game on Saturday.

The game also served as the Intermountain League opener between the only two basketball-playing schools in the IML.

Thomas Bateman added 16 points for Bonners Ferry (12-3), ranked second in 3A this week in the state media poll. Trey Bateman had 12 points.

Tyler Engelson scored 14 points for Timberlake (4-11), and Jacob Yetter added 12.

Bonners Ferry plays host to Lincoln County (Mont.) on Tuesday.

Timberlake plays host to Sandpoint on Tuesday.

ST. MARIES — Sophomore JJ Yearout came up big at both ends of the floor as the Lumberjacks downed the visiting Jaguars in nonleague play.

Yearout scored a career-high 18 points, hitting 3 of 6 3-pointers, for the Lumberjacks (5-5). On defense, he had six steals, and held Genesis Prep’s Spencer Farrell, who hit six 3s and scored 29 points the previous night, to one point.

“That was our key, try to keep the ball out of his hands,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “And JJ picked some passes off that were intended for him, and took them out of their offense.”

Seth Swallows added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Wyatt Holmes had 12 points for St. Maries, which plays at Wallace on Wednesday.

Silas Blood scored 11 points, Brady Rupert 10 for Genesis Prep (5-9), which returns to action next Saturday at home vs. Lakeside.

KELLOGG — The visiting Bears jumped out to a 30-17 halftime lead en route to the win over nonleague win over the Wildcats at Andrews Gymnasium.

Cody Wilson scored 13 points to lead Moscow (6-9), which hit nine 3-pointers.

Draeden Taylor scored a game-high 17 points for Kellogg (5-10).

Kellogg plays host to Priest River on Friday.

N.I. Christian drops two in Montana

KALISPELL, Mont. — The Royals fell 50-45 to Flathead Valley Home School Association on Saturday, after losing 86-45 to Stillwater Christian on Friday.

Caden Smith led North Idaho Christian (10-7) with 24 points vs. Stillwater Christian and 16 against Flathead Valley.

Kas Lott led Flathead Valley with 16 points, and Kaden Drish and Isaac Shawback scored 18 each for Stillwater Christian.

North Idaho Christian is scheduled to play Coeur du Christ on Tuesday at the HUB Sports Center in Liberty Lake.

POST FALLS — Junior Michael Marshall had 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Lions of Hayden beat the visitors from Pasco, Wash., in Mountain Christian League play at The Courts at Real Life.

Colton Smith had 14 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists and three steals, and Luke McWhorter had 10 points, four steals and three blocked shots for Christian Center School (8-6, 6-5 MCL), which plays Kingdom on Tuesday in Spokane.
