ST. MARIES — The St. Maries Lumberjacks used 13 players to wear down the Grangeville Bulldogs 55-38 in a Central Idaho League game on Saturday.

“Between our defense and depth, it was tight throughout the game,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “We knew we’d have to keep the tempo up and were able to play 13 guys to their six or seven.”

Senior Seth Swallows scored 11 points and senior Wyatt Holmes had nine points and 10 rebounds for St. Maries (4-5, 2-0 CIL), which travels to Orofino on Thursday.

OROFINO — The visiting Wildcats led 38-28 at halftime, but were outscored 20-4 in the third quarter by the Maniacs in the Central Idaho League loss.

“They switched up their defense, and we kinda stalled out offensively,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We settled, we got more passive, they got going in transition, they got some shots to drop, and the energy kind of shifted.”

Sophomore Draeden Taylor scored 16 points to lead Kellogg (4-8, 0-3 CIL), and senior Blake Coburn added 10.

“We came out the gates playing really well,” Martin said. “We’re young, and learning to play with the lead, and finish things off.”

Senior Loudan Cochran scored 11 of his game-high 21 points in the third quarter for Orofino (3-8, 2-2).

“They kind of go like he goes,” Martin said of Cochran.

Kellogg travels to Lakeland on Tuesday.
