• BOYS BASKETBALL

HARRISON FLATS — They partied like it was 2019 at Kootenai High on Thursday night.

The Warriors won their first game since the 2018-19 season, and snapped a 50-game losing streak by defeating the visiting St. Maries junior varsity 2 team 60-23.

“Hard work is paying off,” first-year Kootenai coach Tom Tucker said. “My kids finally had some confidence in their offense this evening, and ran their plays to perfection ending up in layups and easy buckets.”

Junior Chris Moore poured in 32 points and junior Simon Hodges added 15 for Kootenai (1-4), which won for the first time since Feb.7, 2019, when the Warriors defeated Kendrick.

Kootenai lost its last two games that season, went 0-15 in 2019-20, did not play in 2020-21 due to COVID-19, then finished 0-14 and 0-15 the past two seasons.

“The boys played as a team for the first time this year, and it was a joy to watch,” Tucker said. “Very proud of them, and everyone who joined us this evening, we thank you.”

Blane Kucirek scored 15 points for the St. Maries JV2 team.

Kootenai is scheduled to return to action next Thursday at Clark Fork.
