POST FALLS — As Post Falls coach Mike McLean has seen in practice, if you give senior Neil McCarthy space, he’s going to shoot his shot.

On Wednesday, that shot was falling.

McCarthy made 4 of 5 from the 3-point line for the Trojans, who beat the Moscow Bears 65-32 in an Inland Empire League game at The Arena.

“We forced them into 21 turnovers with our pressure and really affected their guards,” McLean said. “And if you leave Neil open, he’s going to hit some shots.”

Post Falls shot 6 of 11 from the 3-point line and finished 60% from the field, limiting the Bears to 12 points in the second half.

“Tonight was the first time we’d played disciplined for four quarters,” McLean said. “The guys played with a relentless effort. We had some precision in our defense, really sturdy and made them struggle to get anything going.”

Senior Alex Shields had 15 points, senior Asher Bowie six rebounds, junior Tyras Blake four rebounds and junior Trenton McLean had six points and four rebounds for Post Falls (10-3, 2-0 IEL), which travels to Lewiston on Friday.

Ian Hillman had eight points for Moscow (4-9, 1-2).

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — Senior Kursten McKellips scored 14 of her game-high 16 points in the second half for the Tigers in a nonleague win over the Cardinals.

“She did a good job of getting some rebounds and second chance points,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We did a better job of rebounding as a team. Defensively, it was our best game of the season. The intensity was what we’ve been looking for and it was good to keep that up all four quarters.”

Junior Diana Nelson scored 11 points for Timberlake (11-3), which travels to Bonners Ferry on Jan. 19 for the Backwoods Brawl spirit game, the first of two Intermountain League games between the schools.

Medical Lake is 9-4.
