PLUNGE: Showed good in people
I live in Sanders Beach and just witnessed thousands of people descend on our neighborhood and beach to celebrate the New Year by participating in The Polar Bear Plunge. My wife and I sat on our front step and waved and said Happy New Year to all the people we could. In response we got waves, thank yous and return Happy New Year wishes.
When the revelers left, I walked down to the beach, trash bag in hand, to pick up the trash left behind. In total, I picked up eight pieces of trash, this after thousands had been on the beach. Eight! There were about 10 people left on the beach as I walked around and they all thanked me and wished me well. I was so impressed with the respect everyone showed to our lake, beach and community.
Thank you to all those who came to The Polar Bear Plunge. You all made me realize the good in people and got my New Year off on to a very positive start.
Happy New Year.
