OPEN PRIMARIES: Risks becoming a one-party system
Recently there has been much discussion regarding the open primary initiative. There are several things to consider: our country is based on the multiple party system for the exchange of ideas to provide what is best for the people and the country and the realization that no single party, religion or philosophy has the answer to all of society’s needs, rather it stifles dialogue, the exchange of ideas, growth and evolution.
It leads to exclusion and polarization, which we are currently experiencing, and if we are not very careful, we could be living in a one-party system like North Korea, Russia or China. We let our emotions rule instead of common sense. We believe the hype instead of facts. We forget that we are all humans with the same basic needs. We love our families; we work hard and we support our communities and our country. Surely, we have more in common than many are willing to admit.
Discord and violence never ends well. Not only does it destroy lives, but also family ties, cultures and freedoms. It creates enemies and a need for revenge. It seems to me that our time here on Earth is better spent creating a world in which all humans are safe, regardless of their beliefs or abilities; that our children have opportunities that we never dreamed of; truly heaven on Earth.
