Sandra (Sandi) Lee Derby, 72

| February 28, 2024 1:00 AM

Sandi, a 41-year resident of North Idaho, joined her Lord and Savior on Jan. 9, 2024, after a short battle with lung cancer.

She was born Aug. 19, 1951, in Los Angeles, to Allan C. and Virginia Derby. She joined her brother, Allan (deceased), and sister Judie at the family home.

She was raised in Sylmar, Calif., attending Sylmar High School. She later attended cosmetology school. She excelled at her profession, taking many trophies for her award-winning hair designs.

Sandi leaves behind her life partner of 39 years, Karen Sylte Cooper, at their home in Rathdrum, a special homestead worked with loving hands over the years.

She was a talented artist, working in many mediums and creating beauty with her hands.

She loved the outdoors, spending many weekends camping at Big Hank Meadows and fly fishing the Cd'A River. She loved spending time with her family and friends, creating new memories and reminiscing over old ones.

She will be sorely missed.

Survivors include Karen Cooper at the family home, sister Judie Derby Whitaker, brother Steve Michel, many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and stepdaughters.

A memorial will be held this summer with notification in the Coeur d'Alene Press and Facebook.
