NIC: Step up on cybersecurity

| February 28, 2024 1:00 AM

During public comment at NIC, I spoke on the success of the cybersecurity program at the college. I see it as a worthwhile program. I suggested they reopen their ROTC program in order to get the kids their security clearances. This is an important part of the program that needs to take place before they start the class.

No corporation will pay that cost when they can hire from the military. My daughter Nicole received her top security clearance while still in high school. When she’s finished with her hitch, she will be easily employed by any company anywhere in the world.

I rang Todd’s bell with my comments. The instructors said, “No, we can’t do that.” Well, no is never an answer, Todd. With NIC getting hacked and now the city of Coeur d’Alene, the need for that work couldn’t be more evident.

Might I suggest to Todd to listen to the public, adapt, improvise and make things happen. I listened to a young woman, Christa Hazel, speak on working together for a common goal. Her example was the USO, which was rather clever to get Bill Maher and Ted Nugent on the same stage.

Todd, it’s time to put all things aside and get on with what you need to be doing. Make the cybersecurity program as successful as the nursing program. If you need my help, I’ll be there.
