STATE 2A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Kellogg gives Grangeville a battle before falling

KUNA — The eighth-seeded Kellogg Wildcats kept within arm’s reach of the top-seeded Grangeville Bulldogs for three quarters, trailing by just six points before their fellow Central Idaho League rival pulled away for a 62-43 victory in a state 2A first-round game Thursday at Kuna High.

Grangeville beat Kellogg by an average of 29 points in their three meetings prior to state.

Sophomore Dani Henrikson had 10 points and nine rebounds for Kellogg (15-10), which will play fifth-seeded Melba (16-7) today at 11 a.m. PST at Kuna High in the consolation round. Senior Dani Schillereff also scored 10 for the Wildcats.

Mattie Thacker scored 16 points for Grangeville (22-2), which will play No. 4 North Fremont (19-6) in a semifinal game.
