PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lake City takes care of Post Falls, advances to state play-in game

| February 9, 2024 1:17 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — When Lake City freshman Macy Murphey can shoot it the Timberwolves, in turn, are a tough out.

On Thursday, Murphey was shooting it.

Murphey hit four 3-pointers to finish with 16 points for the top-seeded Timberwolves, who fought off the third-seeded Post Falls Trojans 61-34 in the 5A Region 1 second-place game at Lake City High.

“Shooting the 3 is her thing, and she’s really, really good at it,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “When our girls know they’re going to get doubled, they do a good job of finding her and she puts it in the basket.”

Senior KaLiah Frazey scored 14 points and senior Kamryn Pickford had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Lake City (22-2), which faces Timberline of Boise in a state play-in game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Grangeville High.

“KaLiah did a good job of being aggressive and finding the holes in the defense,” Pratt said. “For Kamryn, she’s been talking about being more aggressive, and it was nice to see her take care of that tonight.”

Senior Brooklynn Brennan scored nine points for Post Falls, which finished 8-15.
