NIC MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals scramble, topple Gonzaga club team

COEUR d’ALENE — Vaughn Weems, a 6-foot-5 freshman from Federal Way, Wash., had 19 points and 11 rebounds for North Idaho College,, which scrambled in more ways than one on Thursday night.

NIC, scheduled to play Community Christian of Redlands, Calif., on Thursday, rescheduled to face the Gonzaga club team — an 87-71 win at Rolly Williams Court — after the Saints notified NIC they were still stuck in weather and unable to make it to Coeur d’Alene by tipoff.

“They called us around noon and weren’t sure if they’d make it,” NIC coach Corey Symons said. “They were still 10 hours out, so wanting to make sure we had 30 games on our schedule, we scrambled and picked up a game.”

NIC is still scheduled to face Community Christian today at 1 p.m.

Kyle Karstetter, a sophomore from Moses Lake, Wash., had 10 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore Cobi Campbell had 13 points and four assists for NIC.

Conner Przybylski had 23 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Gonzaga club team.
