POST FALLS — Senior Neil McCarthy scored 11 of his game-high 22 points in the third quarter for the Post Falls Trojans, who outscored the Sandpoint Bulldogs 27-11 in the quarter en route to a 70-43 Inland Empire League win Wednesday at The Arena.

“We were able to get out in transition and get some baskets after our pressure got to them,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “We were able to get some baskets and it allowed us to set up our defense.”

McCarthy also had five steals for Post Falls (113-7, 5-4 IEL), which is off until the 5A Region 1 tournament next Friday.

“We did a good job of getting the ball inside and out,” McLean said. “Neil did a really good job of moving around and finding the open spot.”

Sophomore Connor Carver had 17 points and eight rebounds, junior Trenton McLean 11 points, five steals and five assists for the Trojans.

Junior Emerik Jones scored 14 points for Sandpoint (9-11), which visits Lake City on Friday.

COEUR d’ALENE — The host Timberwolves honored junior Garrett Leonard, who reached the 100-win plateau for his career at a tournament Saturday in Bonners Ferry.

On Thursday, Leonard (195) beat Jorden Tyler of Sandpoint, third at state in 4A last year, for the fourth time in four meetings this season.

“Garrett just controlled the match,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said.

As for the dual, Lake City won eight of the 15 matches. Sandpoint won seven, but five were by pin, two by forfeit.

Lake City won three by pin, two by decision, one by major decision and one by forfeit.
