James Richard Moore, 70

| February 7, 2024 1:00 AM

James Richard Moore, Hayden, Idaho, passed Jan. 4, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.

Jim was born Aug. 24, 1953, to Frederick and Neva McMinimy Moore. Jim attended Post Falls High School and graduated in 1972 as senior class president. He was active in school and lettered in wrestling at a whopping 115 pounds.

After high school, Jim and his friends traveled from Post Falls down the west coast to California on motorcycles visiting friends and family, camping along the way. Jim then enlisted in the United States Navy and served Honorably during the Vietnam Conflict. Jim was stationed at Norfolk N.A.S. Virginia where he became crew chief of a F-4J Phantom fighter jet. He was deployed on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Saratoga and toured the Mediterranean during the war.

Jim met and married his first wife in Virginia, where their daughter, Nichole, and son Jason were born. After his service, they moved back to Idaho. Jim worked locally for several years and became a firefighter and EMT for the City of Rathdrum. After his marriage ended, Jim met and married his life partner Judy and her family. They bought their little piece of heaven on the rimrock, 2 ½ acres of forested land that Jim kept in park-like condition. Their bonfire parties became legendary to friends and family.

Jim started his career with the Idaho Transportation Dept., Division of Weights and Scales in 1989. He was always pleasant and could give a ticket to a truck driver with a smile at the Huetter Port of Entry.

Jim retired after 27 years in 2016 when he and Judy began to travel the country but it was the Oregon Coast they loved most. They also spent wonderful days camping at the property on the St. Joe River.

Jim is preceded in death by his father, Fred Moore, mother Neva Moore and sister Pamela McCurdy.

Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years Judy, and their children, Nicole Hill (Doug) of Bedford, Texas. Son Jason Moore (Michelle) of Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Daughter Rory Carkuff (Darren) of Hayden, Idaho. Brother Christopher Moore (Joanne) of Post Falls, Idaho. Grandchildren Lindsey Hill, Lauren Hill, Josh Moore, Shad Carkuff and Shae Carkuff-Marmon (Dakota).

Per his request, no services will be held. A celebration of his life may be held next summer.
