Sheriff's Office Notable Calls

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office published the following notable calls that occurred between Feb. 2 and Feb. 4. The sheriff’s office describes this information as preliminary and subject to revision as investigations continue.

Feb. 2 – A deputy made a traffic stop at Brunner Road and Old Highway 95.  During the stop, the male driver was arrested for his active warrants out of Bonner County.

Feb. 2 – Deputies responded to a suspicious incident, possible break-in in the Fernan Village. Once deputies arrived on scene, they contacted a male who was acting very strange. It was determined the male was either coming off of illicit drugs or had some other mental health issue. There were no crimes committed. However, the male was not able to care for himselfm so he was taken to Kootenai Health on a mental hold.

Feb. 2 – Deputies responded to a residence in Hayden for a psychological call. A male subject was off his medication and had lunged at his family members, as he believed they were the “Zodiac killer.” The male was taken to Kootenai Health on a mental hold.

Feb. 2 – Deputies responded to the West Fernan Boat Launch for a report of a vehicle in the water. Deputies arrived on scene to find a vehicle in the water up to its tires. Deputies contacted a male subject in the driver’s seat. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle safely and it was determined the occupant was intoxicated. He was charged with driving under the influence.

Feb. 2 – A deputy made a traffic stop at Seltice Way and Baugh Way. The driver was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested for driving under the influence.

Feb. 2 – Deputies responded to a disturbance. The reporting party reported a group of people in the street arguing and one of the subjects stating “pull the trigger.”  Deputies arrived on scene and only located one person in the area. The male subject stated he was walking to Super 1 Foods and did not hear or see anything. A field interview was completed to document the incident.

Feb. 3 – Several deputies responded to Big Smoke on Hess Street after it was reported a male subject was attempting to steal items from the area. It was also reported that when confronted, the male threw something at the store and fled. The male was then reported to doing “burn outs” in the Triple Play parking lot. Deputies located the male at a nearby gas station. The male was identified and it was determined no crimes had occurred and no theft had taken place.  

Feb. 3 – A deputy made contact with a male in the area of Huetter Road and Seltice Way. The male admitted to having a marijuana vape pen on his person. The male was charged for the related drug offense.

Feb. 3 – Deputies responded to the Wolf Lodge Steakhouse for an auto burglary report. A vehicle was entered and a firearm and some other items were stolen.  

Feb. 3 – A deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle at Hayden Avenue and Highway 95. Upon contacting the driver, it was determined they were intoxicated and they were charged with DUI.

Feb. 3 – A deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle at Dalton Avenue and Highway 95. Upon contacting the driver, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. The driver was arrested and during an inventory of the vehicle both felony and misdemeanor amounts of drugs were located to include Hydrocodone pills, marijuana, THS vape pen, several jars of edibles and psilocybin mushrooms.

Feb. 4 – Deputies handled a vehicle accident report for Idaho State Police at Highway 95 and Wilber Road due to them being tied up with other crashes.

Feb. 4 – Several deputies and Northern Lake Fire Personnel responded to the Sportsman’s Access on Hayden Lake for a report of a subject falling through the ice. It was reported the subject was attempting to rescue a dog that had also fallen through the ice. Dispatch was advised the initial subject was able to get out of the water. However, a second subject had now fallen through the ice trying to rescue the dog. Prior to law enforcement and fire arriving on scene, all subjects and the dog were out of the water and warming up at a nearby residence.

Feb. 4 – Deputies with the Recreation Safety Section responded to FSR 438 and S. Beauty Creek Road for a report of a vehicle stuck in the snow and male slumped over the wheel. Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with the male, who was stuck and was trying to stay warm with a camp stove. Deputies assisted the subject with getting his vehicle un-stuck.

Feb. 4 – Deputies responded to a possible suicide threat. It was reported that a male subject had access to weapons and was threatening suicide. Deputies were able to make contact with the male via phone, and after building a rapport with the male, he agreed to walk out and contact Deputies. In talking to the male in person, he did not meet the elements for a PC hold, but deputies provided the male with resources for both the VA and locally so he could get some help.
