COEUR d'ALENE — A Lewiston man was arrested following  standoff in Coeur d'Alene on Sunday.

Ryan Glenn Covey, 34, was booked into the Kootenai County jail for resisting and obstructing officers and a felony warrant, according to a press release.

Coeur d'Alene police received information that Covey, who had an active felony warrant for domestic related issues and witness intimidation, was in the Riverstone area. A witness saw him enter a portable restroom near Atlas Waterfront Park, the release said.

Officers arrived about 12:30 p.m., confirmed Covey was inside the restroom, secured the area and instructed him to come out, the release said.

Covey refused.

Because police were told Covey had access to weapons and was often armed, "out of an abundance of caution, SWAT officers were called to the scene."

Covey again refused to exit the restroom and efforts to convince him to surrender were unsuccessful, so SWAT deployed tear gas into the restroom, the release said.

"Eventually Covey began to exit but he was not cooperative or responsive to commands and as a result a K9 was deployed," a release said.

Covey was arrested and taken to Kootenai Health to be treated for minor injuries being taken to jail, where was being held on $150,000 bond.
