Sheriff's Office Notable Calls

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office published the following notable calls that occurred between Jan. 29 and Feb. 1. The sheriff’s office describes this information as preliminary and subject to revision as investigations continue.

Jan. 29 – Deputies responded to a cold burglary report. During the investigation, it was determined the suspect was a family member. A report was taken.

Jan. 29 – Deputies responded to a non-injury accident at Hayden and Huetter.

Jan. 29 – Deputies handled a stolen homemade trailer report. The suspects are unknown at this time.

Jan. 29 – A deputy made a traffic stop on Lancaster Road near Atlas Road. The driver had an active warrant out of Kootenai County. The driver was arrested.

Jan. 29 – A deputy made a traffic stop at Meyer Road and Poleline Road. During the stop the deputy observed marijuana on the passenger seat. The driver also admitted to having methamphetamine in her purse. A search was conducted and the driver was arrested for the drug charges.

Jan. 29 – Deputies handled a head on crash at Ramsey Road and Prairie Avenue. The accident was non-injury and a report was completed.

Jan. 29 – Deputies responded to the Athol area for a report of a domestic dispute. On scene it was determined non crime had occurred, however the male half was extremely intoxicated. The female decided to leave for the night.

Jan. 30 – Deputies assisted Idaho State Police with an accident at Highway 53 and Prairie Aveneu. They provided traffic control as ISP conducted the investigation.

Jan. 30 – Deputies responded to a domestic dispute. The male half had just been released from the hospital after suffering a stroke. At home, he believed the wife’s phone was controlling the thermostat and he battered her. The male was taken back to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

Jan. 31 – Deputies handled an unattended death call. Nothing suspicious was noted and it appears the death was a result of natural causes.

Jan. 31 – Deputies responded to Prairie Avenue and Idaho Road for a hit and run accident. The run vehicle called in a short time later and the investigation was completed.

Jan. 31 – Deputies and detectives were in the Walmart parking lot and contacted a vehicle with three juveniles under the age of 12. When deputies approached the vehicle, the smell of marijuana from the vehicle was overwhelming. Detectives went into Walmart to locate the male, who then fled on foot across the parking and ran into Roger’s Burgers and hid in the bathroom. Entry was made and the male was taken into custody. Stolen items from Walmart were located in the bathroom and on the male’s person. A search of the vehicle yielded methamphetamine paraphernalia. The male was arrested for the following charges: commercial burglary, petit theft, possession of stolen property, concealment of evidence, obstructing and possession of drug paraphernalia. The male also had a warrant for his arrest. The three juveniles were released to their mother.

Jan. 31 – Deputies responded to Hayden Super 1 Foods for a pedestrian vs. vehicle accident. Once deputies arrived on scene, they learned an elderly female exited her vehicle without putting it into park and the vehicle rolled over her foot.  

Feb. 1 – Deputies received several scam calls throughout the day. The scammers were saying they were sheriff deputies or staff and if you paid them money, they would not put out a warrant for your arrest. Just a reminder, the sheriff’s office would never call and ask for money over the phone.

Feb. 1 – Deputies conducted a welfare check on an elderly male due to hospice not being able to contact him. Deputies eventually made contact with the male who advised he was fine. Hospice will do some follow-up.

Feb. 1 – A deputy made a traffic stop at Lancaster and Vernon J. Baker. A K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle. A search yielded marijuana in a backpack. The occupants of the vehicle were charged with the drug offense.

Feb. 1 – Deputies responded to the Hayden Super 1 Foods for a detained shoplifter. Deputies contacted the suspect who was caught attempting to steal some energy drinks. The suspect also admitted to stealing a six pack of beer earlier. The male subject was issued citations for both offenses.
