PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Thomas Bateman scores 38 as Bonners Ferry downs Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — Junior Thomas Bateman scored 38 points as the visiting Bonners Ferry Badgers wrapped up the Intermountain League title, beating the Timberlake Tigers 82-33 on Friday night.

Asher Williams added 19 points, Trey Bateman 12 for Bonners Ferry (17-3, 2-0 IML), which has won 11 straight games.

“We rattled them a little with our defense, but we didn’t get the rebounds, and we got beat in transition,” Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said. “They’re a good team; they’ve played together for a long time and it shows. Their chemistry is incredible.”

Junior Lucas Vallieres scored 10 points to lead Timberlake (5-13, 0-2), which played with leading scorer Tyler Engelson, who suffered a sprained ankle in practice Tuesday.

Bonners Ferry plays host to Lakeside on Tuesday.

Timberlake is idle until Feb. 13, when it plays host to Priest River.

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Ben Connelly scored all 11 of his points in the first quarter as the host Saints beat the Warriors in nonleague play at Holy Family Catholic School.

Thomas Schlader added 10 points for Coeur du Christ, which will become a member of the Idaho High School Activities Association beginning with the 2024-25 school year.

Chris Moore scored a game-high 16 points for Kootenai (1-10).

“Boys played with a lot of fire tonight,” Kootenai coach Tom Tucker said. “Still had plenty of turnovers that we didn’t need. Still improving in every aspect of the game.”

Kootenai next plays host to Wallace, in a game moved from Wednesday to Thursday.
