PLUMMER — Freshman Khepri Wood hit a 3-pointer with a little over a minute in overtime for the Wallace Miners in a 53-50 win over the Lakeside Knights in a Scenic Idaho Conference game at Ron Miller Court on Wednesday.

With the win, Wallace (11-5, 3-1 SIC) and Lakeside (6-9, 3-1) finished tied for the league title. Wallace will be the top seed to the 1A Division I District 1 tournament starting Monday at North Idaho College, and will face the winner of Monday’s Lakeside-Genesis Prep game in next Wednesday’s championship game.

“We’re really two different teams,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “We don’t have a girl over 5-foot-10, and they’ve got quite a bit of size. We’re a little more athletic and it’s really two different styles of basketball. It’s been that way for many years, and there’s no reason for this year to be any different.”

Lakeside sophomore Kimberly Pluff hit a 3-pointer to force overtime.

“She just made a great play and a great shot to force overtime,” Dohrman said. “Both teams played really well. It was a hard fought game and unfortunately we didn’t come out on the right end of that. But I’m proud of the girls' efforts.”

Britany Phillips scored 22 points for Wallace, which is scheduled to play Mullan on Friday.

Sophomore Kyleigh Wolfe had a team-high 17 for Lakeside, which hosts Clark Fork on Saturday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Garrett Leonard (195 pounds), senior Caden Dutra (152) and junior Nathan Booth (160) notched pins for the Timberwolves, who fell to the Bengals at Lake City High.

“They just outwrestled us,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “Lewiston showed up tonight. I was kind of worried because we didn’t have a great practice (Tuesday), and having Garrett start us off at 195 was great. But after the 138 pound class, the wind kind of went out of our sails and the momentum had switched to them. We had to work hard for everything we got tonight and they just outwrestled us tonight.”

Lake City competes in the Conrad Garner Invitational at Bonners Ferry High on Friday and Saturday.
