KELLOGG WRESTLING

ST. MARIES — Two Wildcats won gold, and the Wildcat boys took second as a team at the Chad Ross Memorial Tournament at St. Maries High School.

Kellogg’s Ricky Haralson and Carsun Hinkelmann won their respective weight classes, while teammates Kevin Watson, Johnny Stovern, Wyatt Storey, Colton Storey, Chase Scribner, and Kyle Van Vleet found their way to the podium.

Hinkelmann was also named as the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.

“Carsun had a great weekend, capping it off with a big win over Logan Loaiza of Post Falls, a very experienced and state recognized wrestler,” Kellogg coach Scott Miller said. “I’m really happy for him to have won the Outstanding Wrestler Award, an award that he certainly earned and deserved.”

Haralson came into the season as one of Kellogg’s best wrestlers from recent years, but he hadn’t found his footing this year, due to illness.

“Ricky really stepped up this weekend,” Miller said. “He has been battling sickness so it was fun to see him flying around the mat and feeling good. We’re really proud of his performance.”

The ladies also wrestled at Chad Ross, with Kalayah White and Zoie Lawson pacing the team scoring for the Wildcats.

“We really saw our team step it up in pace and intensity this weekend, even more so than last weekend at the George Wild,” Miller said. “We got something positive out of each of our kids to carry into the second half of our season.”
