The Kootenai County Republican Central Committee is sponsoring a speech contest and offering scholarship prizes.

Applicants provide a three-minute video performing their speech to the contest committee, then the finalists deliver their speech at the annual Lincoln Day dinner. A $1,200 prize will be awarded for first place, $950 for second and $700 for third.

The contest asks the question: "What is your vision for the future?" It is open to grades 9-12, public, private and home-schooled students in Kootenai County.

The three finalists will give their speech during the dinner where the audience will vote and determine the winner. Finalists must attend the Lincoln Day dinner where two complimentary tickets will be provided.

The dinner is scheduled Feb. 15 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort. Sean Spicer, President Trump’s former White House press secretary, will be the keynote speaker.

The application deadline is Jan. 24.
