RIVER: Is it at capacity?
I read with interest the article on the hearing on Dec. 19 regarding the Post Falls Marina Project.
The Idaho Department of Lands is seeking comments on a proposed expansion on the Spokane River.
The article gave glowing updates on all the new owners of Templins (StanCraft) has done to the property since buying it earlier this year. New gas pumps, snack shack, landscaping, security system updates, etc. Good to hear! Wonderful improvements for those that re-create and on our beautiful Spokane River.
However, I found it quite interesting that the article did not mention the main reason (?) Idaho Dept. of Lands was seeking comments on this issue. The Marina at this time has approximately 189 boat slips at this location and they have applied for a permit to build up to an ADDITIONAL 100 boat slips on the dock expansion.
Is the river now approaching a maximum carrying capacity? Will this potentially impact citizens safe recreation on the river. Not only for riverfront residents but also those in the local communities that use the public launches.
