PRESS CHRISTMAS FOR ALL: Car repair uplifts grandmother
As part of the annual Press Christmas for All campaign, we share with readers the stories of those who have received help from the program. This is one of them.
Even while living with a brain tumor, “Claire” continues to give of herself to others.
The 63-year-old grandmother lives in a group home in Post Falls, where she provides care and kindness to her roommates, even as she faces multiple major health problems.
Claire also takes pride in her role as a grandmother. But when her car broke down and she couldn’t afford the repairs, she found herself unable to travel to help her grandkids.
Though she recently had a hip replacement and is now facing surgery to remove a brain tumor, Claire began painting houses in order to make money for car repairs. This work was hard on her body and her mental health, causing both to decline.
It was at this crossroads in Clarie’s life that St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho referred her to Press Christmas for All for possible help.
Through community donations, Christmas for All paid for Claire’s car repairs. This got her back on the road, allowing her to work, and back into the lives of the grandchildren she cherishes.
Each year, Press readers donate generously to Press Christmas for All. Every penny raised is distributed to Kootenai County residents. Less than one percent of the funds raised go to overhead costs.
The gift recipients are our neighbors who are struggling, including the elderly, people with disabilities, veterans, the homeless and those with mental illnesses. Many who seek assistance from Christmas for All are working, but living in poverty.
Beneficiaries of Press Christmas for All keep their dignity while the community provides a hand-up to help get them back on their feet.
Press Christmas for All is managed by The Hagadone Corp., with assistance from CharityReimagined.Org. It is a legally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers.
