EDITORIAL: Won’t do any good
Regarding your editorial “Dalton Garden’s Right to Lower Speed Limit. Unfortunately failure to obey the speed limit is pervasive in almost all our neighborhoods. I live on a street with a 25 MPH limit and many cars don’t pay attention to it any more that they do Dalton’s 35 MPH. Calls to the Sheriff’s office may bring out a deputy for a couple of hours but things quickly return to as before. The solution. I do not know. Speed bumps, more stop signs along these non-arterial streets, increased dedicated patrols? But as well intentioned as your editorial imploring driving to obey the speed limit I’m afraid it is a waste of column space. The time will inevitably come when someone will be killed in one of these neighborhoods by a speeding driver. When you report on this please include the comment “gee didn’t they read our editorial.”
